Class of 2028

The application deadline for the Class of 2028 was December 15, 2023. For additional information regarding the application process, please contact the Admissions Office by emailing admissions@johncarroll.org.

The John Carroll School accepts students who are mission-aligned in their values, motivated to meet the rigor of college-prep work, and eager to learn and succeed. Candidates are evaluated on:

  • Middle school performance including academics, conduct and attendance

  • Standardized test scores

  • Teacher recommendations

  • Performance on the High School Placement Test (HSPT)

But that’s not all we consider. We know each student is more than a sum of grades and scores. We want students who show they’re willing to lead; who seek to solve problems and think critically; who see strength in collaboration and diverse perspectives; and most of all, who can maximize every opportunity to make their mark on the world.

Requirements for Admission
  • Presentation of an original birth certificate (schools are expected to keep a copy of the certificate on file)

  • Proof of custody, where applicable

  • Completed John Carroll School Application

  • Participation in a Shadow Day or equivalent experience

  • A non-refundable application fee

  • Interview may be required for some individual programs

Below, you will find all the steps you will need to check off in order to complete your application.

Transfer students

The John Carroll School accepts transfer applications from another high school. There is limited space, and the School only accepts those whose academic and scheduling needs can be accommodated. The School does not accept Senior transfers from inside of the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s boundaries unless there are exceptional mitigating circumstances as determined by the School’s administration. The School does not consider applications for repeating a grade or student reclassification. Students transferring into The John Carroll School must transfer into the school before September 30 of the current calendar year or between January 1–15 of the following calendar year.

The John Carroll School welcomes applications from students who desire an educational experience founded on the Catholic philosophy of education and who fulfill the age, health, academic and behavioral requirements are eligible for admission to the School. In certain cases, students may be admitted on a probationary basis subject to the student successfully completing one or more subsequent interim evaluations. Students with academic or other needs (i.e., behavioral) which cannot be reasonably addressed by the School may be denied admission. School application forms may request disability-related information. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) does not prohibit a school from asking questions about a student’s disabilities provided that information does not discriminate (automatically prohibit a student from applying).
