Planned Giving

With the establishment of The John Carroll Society we recognize benefactors who have generously provided for the school in their gift and estate plans. If you have included John Carroll School in your estate plans, please contact the Director of Development to insure that your gift will be used according to your wishes - and more importantly, so that we can thank you properly.

Leaving A Lasting Legacy...
A Way To Say “Thank You”

Rajiv Goel '90

Making John Carroll a part of your estate plan is an easy way of saying “thank you” for the meaningful role John Carroll has played in your life.

One way of making John Carroll a part of your estate plan is by making a bequest or designating John Carroll as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy. A bequest is a gift made through a will. Bequests may include cash, marketable securities, closely held stock, real estate, or tangible personal property. You can designate John Carroll to receive a set dollar amount or a certain percentage of your estate. In addition, there are ways of designating John Carroll as the beneficiary of all or part of your estate following the death of a spouse or other primary beneficiary.

Sample Testamentary Language

“I give ( ________ dollars) or (a specific asset, such as securities, real estate or other property) or (all) or ( ________ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate) to John Carroll School (EIN:___________), 703 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21014 (for its general purposes) or (for the following purpose: ________ ).”

It should be noted that although bequests are deductible for estate tax purposes, they are not deductible for income tax purposes. For those individuals seeking an income tax deduction, it is best to either make the gift while you are alive or utilize other charitable giving techniques such as charitable trusts. Before doing anything, of course, you should consult with your attorney or accountant.

For those individuals making bequests to John Carroll, please notify the Development Office. Not only will it allow John Carroll to keep track of your bequest, but it will allow you to become a member The John Carroll Society, which recognizes benefactors who have generously provided to John Carroll.

John Carroll hopes that you will consider remembering John Carroll as part of your estate plan. It’s an easy way to say “thank you” and for ensuring that John Carroll can continue its rich tradition of excellence in the years to come.
