How to Apply
- Take the High School Placement Test (HSPT)
The test will take place on December 13, 2008. Students should arrive to The John Carroll School and report to the auditorium by 8:30 a.m. The cost of the test is $30.00. John Carroll is one of the sites equipped for extended time testing. If a student requires extended time testing, appropriate documentation must be provided before the administration of the test — no later that two days before the test date. Appropriate documentation includes the following: a report/letter from a licensed physician, psychologist, or counselor stating a specific need for extended time testing or an IEP from the public school system. No documentation will be accepted the day of the test. The use of calculators is prohibited for any student taking the test. All students who take the Admissions Exam will be asked to list their high school choices in order of preference. - Complete a John Carroll School Application
The entire application should be filled out completely. The application deadline is January 9, 2009. Call Admissions Office for complete brochure or apply online. **Applications are only accepted by John Carroll between the months of September and January. - Submit a $35.00 non-refundable application fee
Please make all checks or money orders payable to The John Carroll School. Please make sure the student’s name is referenced on the check. Submit this fee with the John Carroll application. - Transcripts
Students should submit the Records and Teacher Recommendation Form to their current school. The form should be filled out and returned to the Guidance office of their current public school. Do not send this form to John Carroll. All standardized testing should also be forwarded. If the student attends a Catholic school, the school will send the records to John Carroll, along with the High School Application form, as long as the student has indicated John Carroll as one of their high school choices.
Please note: Distribution of report cards is different at every school. It is very important that John Carroll receive all report cards issued to a student before the end of January. This will usually include the first and second quarter. Third and fourth quarter grades need to be forwarded to The John Carroll School after the student has been accepted. Decisions to place students in summer school will depend on the results of the third and fourth quarter report cards. Final report cards that indicate declining performance or failures may alter an admissions decision. - Shadow Day & Interview
Eighth graders are required to come and spend a day with a John Carroll student host and meet with the Admissions Director. Students will write an essay on one of three topics they will be given that day. Shadow days are scheduled during the months of September through December. Please contact the Admissions Office to arrange dates and times. (410) 879-2480 ext. 2061.
All materials must be received in the John Carroll admissions office no later than January 9, 2009.
